A nest of tables is a set of tables in graduated sizes. Each smaller table slides under the next larger one, so the set takes up little floor space when pushed together and gives you several separate surfaces when pulled apart. This collection brings together wooden nesting tables for the living room. For the rest of the room, see our living room furniture.
Start with the number of tables. Most sets here have three, and one has two. Three tables give you more separate surfaces, while the set of two has fewer pieces to place and larger tables. If you only need one small table beside a sofa or chair, our side and end tables may suit you better than a set.
Then compare the listed size of each table, not just the largest. The largest tables measure about 45 to 53 cm across and 45 to 48 cm high. The smallest tables in the sets of three are about 22 to 25 cm across and 28 to 30 cm high. Nested, a set takes up roughly the floor space of its largest table. Pulled apart, it needs the space of every table plus room to move between them, so measure for both.
Heights step down within each set, so check them against the furniture nearby, such as the arm of a sofa. There is no single right height: measure the piece the tables will sit beside and compare it with each listed height.
The tops differ from set to set. Two sets have solid rectangular tops, and another has a solid top above crossed bracing on its sides. One set has open slatted tops, and the set of two has rounded-triangle tops. Leg details differ too: straight legs with low side rails, legs that flare slightly outward, turned legs, and angled, open U-shaped legs.
Every set here lists solid Sheesham wood in its specification. Photographs cannot show a wood species, so rely on the specification on each product page. Four sets come in Natural or Walnut, and the other comes in one finish, so choose the option on the product page before you order.
What is a nest of tables and how does it work?
A nest of tables is a set of tables in graduated sizes. The smaller tables slide under the largest, so the set stays compact when you do not need the extra surfaces. When you do, you pull the tables out and use them together or in different spots. Each table can be moved on its own.
How much floor space do nesting tables need when nested and spread out?
Nested, a set takes up roughly the floor space of its largest table. The largest tables listed here measure about 45 to 53 cm across, and the smaller ones range from about 22 to 43 cm across. Those are the sizes of individual tables, not of an arrangement. Spread out, a set needs the room of each table plus space to move between them, and that depends on how you place them, so no single combined size applies. The rounded-triangle tops are not square, so their footprint is smaller than their listed length times width. To plan, mark each table's listed size on the floor with tape and leave a clear walking path.
Should I choose a nesting table set of two or three?
Choose by how many surfaces you want and how much floor you can spare. A set of three gives you more separate surfaces and three heights, and its smallest table is about 22 to 25 cm across. The set of two has fewer pieces and larger tables, about 53 cm and 43 cm across. Compare the listed size of every table in the set, not only the largest, and think about how the set will look when it is pulled apart.
How do solid, slatted and rounded-triangle tabletops differ?
A solid top gives one continuous surface. An open slatted top has gaps between the slats and shows the wood in lines, so a tray can help if you want a flat base for small or narrow items. Rounded-triangle tops have a different outline from the rectangular sets, with rounded corners, so look at how they will sit against a sofa or wall. None of them suits every home, so choose by what you will put on the tables and how they fit your space.
